UM Tech Career Expo

Co-hosted by the UM College of Humanities and Sciences, Missoula College, and the Montana High Tech Business Alliance.

What: Career presentation and reception with UM students and Montana tech employers. Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be served during reception.

Who: Open to students, faculty, staff, and alumni of all University of Montana campuses and member companies of the Montana High Tech Business Alliance.

When: 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 25th

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE EVENT:

The expo will introduce students to employers and help them understand the specific steps they can take, as well as what skills are needed, to get from where they are into a tech career.

3:00 - 4:00 pm   Intro and Tech Career Panel #1: Computer Science, IT, Design, and STEM

Hear from local professionals in technical fields like Software Development, IT, Cybersecurity, Engineering, Data Science, Production, and Design.

Speakers will share their education and career path, what they do day-to-day, and what their company looks for when hiring for jobs and internships.

Panelists include:

  • Patrick Berens, Staff Software Engineer, Submittable, a software company specializing in grant management and social impact.

  • Christopher Burgoyne, Senior Software Engineer, Skyfish, an engineering-grade drone platform manufacturer (hardware and software).

  • Lance Fisher, Senior Director of Engineering, onXmaps, Inc., a software company specializing in digital outdoor navigation.

  • Deanna Jenness, Systems Administrator, Blackfoot Communications, a cooperative providing broadband, network, voice, and managed services.

  • Eric Staley, VP for Admin, GL Solutions, a provider of software and services to help government agencies run more efficiently.

4:00 – 5:00 pm  Intro and Tech Career Panel #2: People Operations, Marketing, Sales, and Communications

Learn from professionals in business and people-focused roles like Consulting, Human Resources, Project Management, Digital Marketing, Content Creation, Sales, and Customer Success.

Panelists include:

  • Dean Bentley, Human Resource Generalist, NorthWestern Energy, a provider of electricity and natural gas for residential and business customers.

  • Kym Corwin, Vice President, NA Workforce Development, ATG, A Cognizant Company, a technology services firm specializing in customer and revenue management consulting and implementation.

  • John Harrington, Brand Partnerships, Snapchat, a visual messaging app.

  • Sarah Huffman, Senior Sales Recruiting Manager, Instacart, a grocery technology company.

  • Mario Schulzke, Chief Operating Officer, Pathlabs, a digital media company built for agencies.

5:00 – 6:00 pm  Reception

Food and drinks served. Information tables will be open for students and faculty to meet employers and ask questions.
