Who should attend? K-12 educators, out-of-school time providers, curriculum coordinators, post-secondary students, and anyone interested in gaining ideas and resources to enhance STEM instruction.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE EVENT:

The sixth annual STEM Summer Institute is a one-of-a-kind, Montana-made showcase for STEM integration across all grades and subject areas. The interactive agenda is designed to help educators:

  • PLAN STEM learning environments using tools, strategies, and models to motivate and encourage increased STEM integration in K-12 classrooms;

  • IMPLEMENT ready-to-use, STEM-based projects through authentic, hands-on experiences to model and enable use of best practices for STEM teaching and learning;

  • REIMAGINE STEM learning through whole-child approaches to give future STEM leaders a more well-rounded view of themselves and their communities

During the Institute you’ll discover how Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics combine to motivate powerful 21st century learning. Build a deeper understanding of STEM education by engaging in purposeful networking, attending demonstration sessions and mini-workshops, and meeting inspiring keynote speakers. 

On Tuesday, August 6th, Christina Henderson, executive director of the Montana High Tech Business Alliance will lead the 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. breakout session “Hot Montana Jobs: Empowering Educators and Students with Tech Career Pathways.” 

Explore online resources designed to help students discover tech career pathways in Montana. This session highlights hot job trends, future-ready skills, and local education opportunities. Equip educators with tools to inspire and guide students into high-growth, high-paying tech careers close to home. Learn how to make classroom learning relevant through real-world applications, foster STEM identities, and help diverse students find role models, creating tighter connections with companies and careers. Gr. 6-12.

Keynote Speakers

"Reimagining STEM: Evolving Instruction in an Ever-Changing World" with Paul Anderson

Paul Andersen is an educational consultant and YouTube creator living in Bozeman, MT, and he taught science in Montana for 20 years. In 2011, Paul was the Montana Teacher of the Year, and was also one of four finalists for the National Teacher of the Year. Paul has created hundreds of YouTube science tutorials that have been viewed millions of times by students around the world. He's provided training for thousands of students, teachers, and administrators, and he enjoys providing meaningful professional development that can be applied immediately in the classroom.

"Obstacles are Opportunities: Viewing the World through the Lens of a Data Scientist" with Dr. Ann Marie Reinhold

Dr. Ann Marie Reinhold is a Data Scientist and Assistant Professor in the Gianforte School of Computing and Co-Director of the Software Engineering and Cybersecurity Lab (SECL) at Montana State University in Bozeman. Dr. Reinhold is a data scientist who specializes in the development and application of computational methods to understand the mechanisms underpinning pressing environmental, societal, and cybersecurity problems.
