WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE EVENT:

The Montana 48 Hour Film Project is an international, time-based short film competition where Montana filmmakers compete to write, shoot, and edit a 4-7 minute film in just one weekend. To keep things interesting, the film must utilize four required elements: a pair of genres they draw at The Kick-Off, a prop, a character, and a line of dialogue.

Welcoming creatives of all ages, skills, and experience levels, from students and hobbyists to seasoned professionals, the competition will be held entirely virtual, allowing filmmakers to shoot their films anywhere in the state.

All films turned in (on time or not) will be screened on Saturday, July 8th, 2023 in Helena at the Myrna Loy Theater. Awards will be announced after the screening, including the coveted Best Film in Montana. The winner of Best Film advances to Filmapalooza 2024 to be screened and judged with over 100+ city winners from around the globe, and eligible for a screening at the 2024 Cannes International Film Festival Short Film Corner.

The Montana 48 Hour Film Project is sponsored by the Montana Film Office.
